Russia Slams U.S.–Israel Strikes on Iran, Vows Support ‘Where Necessary’

Moscow – Russia has strongly condemned the recent joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, warning that the attacks could destabilize the Middle East and undermine global nuclear non-proliferation efforts.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized what she described as “destabilizing actions” by Washington and Tel Aviv. She said Moscow is prepared to assist “where necessary” and urged all parties to return to diplomatic negotiations.
Russia Calls Strikes ‘Destabilizing’
Zakharova stated that the recent wave of U.S. actions is deeply concerning and risks escalating tensions across the region.
“These attacks undermine international law, including the principles of non-interference in internal affairs, the prohibition of force or threats, and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” she said.
Russia called for an immediate shift toward political and diplomatic solutions, emphasizing that military escalation could have long-term global consequences.
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Concerns
The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that strikes on nuclear facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are “completely unacceptable.”
Moscow argued that such actions could weaken the global nuclear non-proliferation framework built around the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
Zakharova claimed that the U.S.–Israel alliance is using concerns over Iran’s nuclear program as a pretext for broader political objectives.
Accusations Over Political Motives
According to Russia, the real goal of the strikes may be to destabilize Iran’s constitutional system and leadership. Moscow warned that the consequences of what it called a “man-made crisis” could include unpredictable retaliation and increasing violence across the region.
Russia urged the international community to conduct an objective assessment of the situation and cautioned that continued escalation could further destabilize the Middle East.
