Streaming platform JioHotstar on Friday (March 13) unveiled the trailer of its upcoming Tamil web series, Kaattaan, starring Vijay Sethupathi. Created by M Manikandan (Kaaka Muttai, Kadaisi Vivasaayi fame), who has also directed it with B Ajith Kumar, the series is set to premiere on the platform on March 27.
Due to a lack of cases to investigate, a police station faces closure. However, just a week before they shut their doors, a severed head is discovered on a hill. The cops figure out that the deceased is Muthu, a man who once worked as a watch mechanic in 1997 in Ottanchathiram. Then, after working as an elephant trainer in 2005, the man moved to Bombay, where he indulged in some illegal activities. In 2013, he worked as a bodyguard to the Kanmani dance group. ”Feared outlaw or misunderstood hero? As perspectives clash, the mystery deepens, slowly unravelling the truth behind Muthu and the events that led to his gruesome discovery,” reads the logline. The trailer promises a riveting investigative story on the cards.

The series also stars Milind Soman, Sudev Nair, Vadivel Murugan, Risha Jacobs, VJ Paaru, Kalaivani Bhaskar, and Muthukumar in pivotal roles.
Talking about the trailer, Vijay Sethupathi, said in a statement, “When Manikandan first narrated Kaattaan to me, he shared a six-page synopsis. I was instantly hooked by the character and the world he had imagined. Working on this series gave me a real sense of peace as an actor. I truly hope that when audiences watch it, they walk away with something meaningful to reflect on.”
Sharing his thoughts on the trailer, Milind Soman said, “As someone who is selective about projects he chooses, Kaattaan stood out for its gripping narrative and bold characters, and Sivettan was a role I couldn’t resist. Working on the series was an absolute thrill from the immersive sets, sharp direction, and collaborating with Vijay Sethupathi and the team brought this enigmatic figure to life in ways that pushed me creatively.”
With music scored by Rajesh Murugesan, the series has cinematography by Madhu Neelakandan. Manikandan is known for directing Kadaisi Vivasayi (2021), which won the National Award for Best Feature Film and was headlined by Vijay.
Vijay, who was recently seen in the silent filmGandhi Talks, is currently working on Pocket Novel, which reunites him with director Thyagarajan Kumararaja after Super Deluxe (2019). The actor also has Slum Dog, directed by Puri Jagannadh; a film with Balaji Tharaneedharan; Farzi 2, helmed by Raj & DK; Jailer 2, headlined by Rajinikanth; Train, directed by Mysskin; and Arasan, the upcoming Vetri Maaran film headlined by Silambarasan TR, in the pipeline.
