Oman Missile Attack 2026: Bihar Captain Ashish Kumar Missing, 5-Year-Old Son Waiting for His Father

Amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel and joint US-Israel military operations, a heartbreaking incident has emerged from Bettiah in West Champaran district of Bihar. An oil tanker named Skylight (IMO: 9330020) was hit by a missile on March 1, 2026, in the Gulf of Oman. Following the attack, Captain Ashish Kumar from Bettiah has been reported missing.
Attack Near Khasab Coast, Three Crew Members Still Missing
According to reports, the vessel was stationed near the Khasab coast of Oman when it was struck by a missile. There were 20 crew members onboard at the time of the attack.
17 crew members have been rescued safely.
3 crew members remain missing, including Captain Ashish Kumar from Bihar.
The family has contacted the Indian Embassy in Oman, but no confirmed information has been received so far regarding his whereabouts.
Joined the Vessel on February 22
Ashish Kumar’s younger brother, Akash Kumar, stated:
“Bhaiya joined the Merchant Navy on January 20, 2026. His first posting was in Dubai. On February 22, he joined the oil tanker Skylight heading to Oman. The missile attack happened on that very ship.”
Captain Ashish Kumar is the eldest among three brothers. His father, Ashok Kumar, is a lawyer by profession, while his mother, Sunita Devi, is a homemaker.
BJP MP in Contact with Authorities
Bettiah BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal said he has been in continuous contact with Omani authorities and India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. He stated that the oil tanker is still on fire, making it difficult for rescue teams to enter the vessel.
A 5-Year-Old Son Waiting for His Father
Captain Ashish’s wife, Anshu Kumari, is devastated. His five-year-old son, Daksh, keeps asking when his father will return home. The entire family is shattered and has appealed to the Government of India to ensure his safe return.
Impact of Iran-Israel War
The Iran-Israel conflict has entered its fourth day, creating instability across the Middle East. Following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, tensions in the region have intensified. The war has led to:
Rising global oil prices
Disruptions in international flights
Disturbances in maritime trade
The incident highlights how the conflict is affecting Indian citizens working abroad.
Family’s Appeal
The family’s only plea to the government is:
“Bring our son back safely, just as he had gone.”
As Bettiah and the entire state of Bihar wait anxiously, prayers continue for the safe recovery of Captain Ashish Kumar.
