Pradosh is the sacred day, which is dedicated to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees keep fast from dawn to dusk and offer prayers to seek their blessing. Pradosh that falls on Monday (Somwar) is called as Som Pradosh. This is the sacred twilight period when people honor Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Som Pradosh is observed on Trayodashi tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. This month, Som Pradosh Vrat will be observed on March 30, 2026.

Som Pradosh Vrat 2026: Sigificance

Pradosh day is considered as the most auspicious day in Hinduism. This day is devotees to worship Lord Shiva. Devotees observe fast from dawn to dusk and offer their sincere prayers to Lord Mahadev and Mata Parvati. Pradosh falls on trayodashi tithi and devotees perform puja during sacred twilight period after sunset. This twilight (Gaudhuli) period is considered as the most powerful period to perform puja to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Hindu scriptures, there are two types of pradosh fast are observed, one is broken during the evening after worshipping the lord and goddess and second one is broken after 24 hours (next day).

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.2. They can light a diya with desi ghee in front of the idol 3. They can light a doya with desi ghee in front of the idol 3. Devotees visit the temple and perform abhishekam to shivalingam with panchamrit.4. In the evening during twilight period, one should perform puja by placing an idol of Shiva Parivar on a wooden plank. 5. Light a diya with desi ghee, adorn the idol with garland and offer home made bhog prasad specially kheer along with fruits and dry fruits. 4. Chant mantras associated with Lord Shiva and to invoke the idol and recite pradosh vrat katha. 5. Devotees can break their fast in the night after offering bhog prasad to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and have satvik meal without garlic and onion.6. Those who are observing strict fast, they can eat fruits and break their fast next day in the morning.
