In a significant development for higher education and international academic cooperation, Nalanda University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The agreement aims to strengthen joint research initiatives, academic exchange programs, and civilizational dialogue between the two prestigious institutions.
This partnership gained additional attention following Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, during which India–Israel relations were elevated to the level of a special strategic partnership.

After Prime Minister Modi’s address at the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, the Hebrew University acknowledged the MoU and expressed appreciation, describing it as an academic extension of the deepening partnership between the two nations.
The agreement is the formal outcome of ongoing academic dialogue between the institutions over recent months.

Collaborative research projects will be undertaken.
Special focus areas will include Buddhist Studies, Archaeology, Mathematics, and International Relations.
The initiative is expected to build a new academic bridge between the ancient civilizations of India and Israel.
Strong Foundation Through Prior Engagement
Recently, Hebrew University’s Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Guy Harpaz, held detailed discussions with Nalanda University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi and other faculty members.
Additionally, Prof. Eviatar Shulman, Director of Buddhist Studies at Hebrew University, visited Nalanda University and delivered a special lecture, laying the groundwork for deeper collaboration.
Vice-Chancellor’s Statement
Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi stated that the agreement would further strengthen the historical ties between the two countries. He emphasized that it would open global research opportunities for faculty and students, enhancing their innovation capabilities and career prospects.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Nalanda University has long been committed to fostering intercultural understanding and building global academic bridges. This MoU is expected not only to expand academic collaboration but also to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between India and Israel.
As part of the broader engagements during PM Modi’s Israel visit, the agreement marks another milestone in strengthening bilateral relations in education, technology, and cultural cooperation — contributing to global peace, innovation, and development.
