A Sikh organisation has lodged a complaint with the police in Mumbai against the makers of the film Dhurandhar: The Revenge and its lead actor Ranveer Singh, alleging that the movie’s promotional material has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, officials said on Wednesday (March 24, 2026).

The complaint, submitted by a group called “Sikhs in Maharashtra” at the Mulund police station on March 17, objects to a poster showing the actor in Sikh attire, including a turban, beard, and kada, which are considered sacred in Sikhism. The group has taken particular offence to the depiction of the character holding a cigarette while dressed in these religious symbols.

Calling the portrayal disrespectful, the organisation has sought action against the film’s actor, director, and producers.

Police said no FIR has been registered so far and the matter is currently under investigation.

Released on March 19, the film has performed strongly at the global box office, reportedly crossing ₹700 crore. The movie is a sequel to Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, which had earned over ₹1,000 crore worldwide.

The sequel follows the rise of the protagonist, Hamza Ali Mazari, in Karachi’s underworld, while also exploring his past as Jaskirat Singh Rangi and the events that shaped his transformation.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, the film has been released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
