What Kalyan Sura’s award-winning short ‘Dos Bros Force’ reveals about Indian immigrant families

In Dos Bros Force, a 15-minute English-Telugu short now streaming on Omeleto’s YouTube channel after its international festivals run, nine-year-old Isha dreams of playing video games. But at $12 an hour, the neighbourhood parlour is too expensive for her Indian immigrant parents. Set in mid-1990s Los Angeles, the story follows how her older brother makes that dream possible, sparking a shift in their parents’ thinking.

Directed by Kalyan Sura, a Hyderabad-born, California-based filmmaker, the short is backed by Tasveer Film Fund supported by Netflix. It has screened at over 50 film festivals and won 14 awards.
