‘Athiradi’ trailer out: Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph lock horns in the action-comedy film

The trailer of the much-anticipated Tovino Thomas-Basil Joseph film, Athiradi, directed by debutant Arun Anirudhan, was released on Wednesday (April 13, 2026). The film, produced by Basil Joseph and Dr Ananthu S under the banners of Dr Ananthu Entertainments and Basil Joseph Entertainments, is set to release worldwide on May 14.

Athiradi is penned by Arun, who also wrote Minnal Murali and Padayottam, and Paulson Skaria, the writer of Kathal – The Core and Neymar. The film is co-produced by Tovino and Sameer Thahir.

In the trailer, Basil’s character, Sam Kutty, is shown as a college student trying to organise a college fest, which has been put on hold for a few years. And Tovino’s Sreekuttan Vellayani is shown as a troublemaker not to be trifled with.

In his debut production, Basil stars alongside Riya Shibu, Zarin Shihab, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Shaan Rahman. Vishnu Vijay and Chamman Chacko are the film’s music director and editor, respectively.

Two singles from the movie have been released. ‘IYKYK’, released in April, has garnered over three million views on YouTube. The track is sung by Fejo and Poornima Kannan.

Basil Joseph was last seen as Oomen Chacko in the Tamil film Parasakthi, while Tovino’s last big-screen appearance was in Dijo Jose Antony’s period drama Pallichattambi.
